Hormone ban negotiations between Europe and the U.S. initiated the creation of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures SPS ; WTO document which was written by the U.S. Codex delegation in 1987. Chloramphfnicol has been banned in Europe for use on animals since 1994. Drugs such as chloramphenicol and sulfonamide are sometimes used to protect honey bees from brood diseases. Honey with elements of chloramphenicol and sulphonamide were detected in a UK honey brand which was composed of a blend of imported honey. The honey was recalled in November 2005. Exposure to chloramphenicol in food in any quantity is undesirable, but the level of risk will depend on how much is consumed and how frequently. Chloramphneicol and sulphonamide in food are illegal. Chllramphenicol can cause cancer and lead to aplastic anaemia in susceptible people. The importance of the Standards and Guidelines of the Codex Alimentarius Commission and the WTO is growing with global trade and exchange of foods enforcing the ban of pesticides and antibiotics in food worldwide. The Codex Standards are now being recognized as scientific and they are being used as a point of reference in cases of disputes over non-Tariff trade barriers and whether certain trade restrictions have a legitimate scientific basis by the WTO agreement on the SPS and the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade TBT ; . International Corporations and global trade organizations are becoming strongly interested in the Codex, as it helps to harmonize regulations on a worldwide level.

Slipping forward on C2 with forward head flexion, as a result of laxity of the lateral facet joints and weakness of the transverse ligament 20 ; . The lesion can usually be demonstrated on a lateral film of the cervical spine with the head in flexion; the space between the odontoid process and the anterior surface of C1 is increased to 4 millimeters or more. Most patients with anterior subluxation tolerate it well and have no neurological complications, but more advanced and unstable lesions may result in a myelopathy. Surgical fusion for asymptomatic subluxations is controversial 21, 22 ; . Other patients will develop severe erosions of one or both of the lateral facet joints, resulting in occipital pain with head rotation, a rotational head tilt deformity if the lesion is predominantly unilateral, or a myelopathy with severe bilateral erosions that tend to drive the odontoid superiorly into the foramen magnum superior subluxation ; 20 ; . Subaxial subluxations may coexist with any of these derangements, and increase the likelihood of cord injury. Evidence of cord compression at any level is usually considered to be an indication for surgical intervention. Ankylosing Spondylitis. Of the other inflammatory arthropathies, ankylosing spondylitis is the one most likely to affect the cervical spine and cause neck pain. Cervical involvement is typically a late manifestation, often after years of thoracolumbar involvement. The inflammation and ultimate ankylosis tends to proceed from inferior to superior so that the C1-C2 region is usually the last affected. Early in the course of cervical involvement, pain and limitation of motion result primarily from inflammation in the facet joints and should respond to anti-inflammatory drugs. Later, as the joints ankylose and the outer regions of the disc ossify, limited mobility becomes irreversible, but there is less pain. C1-C2 involvement in patterns similar to that seen in rheumatoid arthritis has been reported but is unusual 23 and cilexetil.

The range of MIC values of ciprofloxacin 2-4 g mL ; , ampicillin 128-256 g mL ; , erythromycin 832 g mL ; and chloramphenicol 16-256 g mL ; against different Campylobacter isolates were similar. While the range of MIC values of tetracycline and gentamicin varied with the Campylobcater isolates. Lowest MIC value of tetracycline was against C. coli, and C. lari and highest against C. jejuni and C. lari isolates. The range of MIC values for tetracycline against C. lari was relatively wide. Lowest MIC value of gentamicin was against C. jejuni and highest against rest of the species of Campylobacter. The range of MIC values for ciprofloxacin was narrow while for the other antibiotics it was relatively wide. Our observations indicate that all Campylobacter isolates showed similar response to ciprofloxacin while the response isolates was variable to rest of the antibiotics. Good correlation was found between sensitivity data of Campylobacter isolates by disc diffusion method and lowest MIC value obtained for ciprofloxacin in E-test. Besides, lowest MIC value of tetracycline 4 g mL ; for C. coli correlated with that by disc diffusion method. The antibiotic resistance data for all Campylobacter by disc diffusion method correlated with that by E-test. Discussion The present study demonstrated the significance of domestic animals and river water as reservoirs of and atacand.

Although drug-resistant S. pneumoniae is a concern in other countries, this is not so in the Philippines based on local data. Table 8 shows the resistance rates of S. pneumoniae and H. influenzae isolated in Filipino patients with CAP, indicating low resistance among these pathogens to penicillin, ampicillin, cotrimoxazole and chloramphenicol Recent disk diffusion antibiotic sensitivity tests showed resistance to penicillin of 6.9% by S. pneumoniae, cotrimoxazole of 3% and 5% by S. pneumoniae and H. influenzae, respectively, chloramphenicol of 4. 8% and 4.3Yo, respectively, and tetracycline of 9.5% and 13.90%, respectively.41 Cotrimoxazole as a practical alternative is cost-effective. Only 1-3% of S. pneumoniae and 0.5% of H. influenzae from Filipino patients have been found to be cotrimoxazole resistant.39, 40, 42 Randomized controlled trials done in similar developing countries show that cotrimoxazole was equally efficacious as penicillin in the outpatient treatment of CAP. 41, 46 Although studies were done in children, it maybe expected to work just as well in adults. However, further studies need to be done to validate its efficacy. Studies on etiology among patients with severe CAP admitted for hospital care, showed the predominance of S. pneumoniae particularly in the elderly where it is bacteremic, as well as the occurrence of Gram-negative bacilli.32, 35, 36, 37, Data from local studies are consistent with these findings. Maintained for up to 38 days. Before scanning, the medium in the microplates was replaced with HBSS without phenol red. This procedure greatly minimized background fluorescence from the growth medium while maintaining maximal viability. Plates were scanned with a Fluoroskan Ascent CF microplate fluorescence reader using the Ascent software Thermo Labsystems, Vantaa, Finland ; . Excitation for sphGFP was at 390 nm, while emission was measured at 510 nm. Excitation of tpzGFP was at 485 nm, while emission was measured at 527 nm. Integrated sphGFP was used as an internal control for the number of cells. This was achieved by dividing the relative fluorescence resulting from the episomal tpzGFP vector by the relative fluorescence from sphGFP for each well. In the experiment testing synthetic lethality between mizoribine or ribavirin and HPRT1 deficiency, the drug was added at zero time, and fluorescent scanning was performed 4 weeks later. In contrast, in the analogue largescale blind test experiment, the drugs were added 2 weeks after hygromycin B removal initiating the decay of the survival plasmid ; , and the fluorescence reading was performed 13 days thereafter. In this way, the system is sensitized such that the HPRT1-tpzGFP plasmid retention is more pronounced. Extraction and Characterization of Episomal DNA Low molecular weight LMW ; DNA was extracted from 107 cells with Qiagen, Inc. Hilden, Germany ; mini prep kit, using the manufacturer's protocol, with minor modifications. Control pBC plasmid carrying chloramphenicol resistance gene was added to each sample. The LMW DNA was transformed into DH10B bacteria by electroporation followed by selection for ampicillin and chloramphenicol resistance. The number of bacterial colonies grown on ampicillin plates was normalized to number of colonies on chloramphenicol plates, as the latter corresponds to efficiencies of DNA extraction and bacterial transformation. Southern blot analysis of LMW DNA for sensitivity to either the restriction endonuclease DpnI, which cuts bacterially methylated DNA, or the MboI enzyme, which cleaves DNA that has lost this methylation due to replication in mammalian cells, was performed by standard techniques.

Competitive situation does not exist in the market. According to them, the brand leader is the price leader in most of the cases and hence, the market forces do not tend to appear to determine the prices of the drugs. Specific cases were also quoted to substantiate the point. The Committee's examination revealed that though, there is a provision that a strict watch will be kept on the movement of the prices and the Government may determine the ceiling levels beyond which increase in prices would not be permissible, this provision has seldom been applied. In this context, some of the State Governments have also informed that when the cases of high prices of Anti-cancer drugs, Antibiotics, Neutraceuticals and Cetrizine were referred to the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority NPPA ; , the latter conveyed its helplessness in curtailing the high prices. The Committee are unhappy over this unsatisfactory state of affairs and desire that the situation should be remedied forthwith. They therefore, recommend that for the category of drugs for the same therapeutic use, the Government should determine a reasonable ceiling beyond which increase in prices may not be allowed, for example, chloramphenicol lb plates.
